R is for Re-reading

In today’s continuation of the A-Z Challenge, I give you:

R is for Re-reading

My to-read list is probably 300 books long at this point, and yet, one of my favorite hobbies is to pick up a well-worn book whose pages try to leap from the bindings, curl up in a comfy spot, and re-read a story I’ve enjoyed many times.

Well-read & worn booksBecause I’m a super-fast reader, I miss things. Re-reading a novel gives me the opportunity to pick up bits and pieces I missed on my first read through. Case in point, I’ve probably read Doomsday Book by Connie Willis a dozen times. By the time I’d reached 9th grade, I’d read Dragon Prince by Melanie Rawn so many times that the front cover had completely fallen off, and pages 1-4 were hanging from the binding by a thread. By 12th grade, the book was missing 20 pages. My husband (then boyfriend) was nice enough to replace the copy.

Most readers find comfort in an old story, and I’m no exception. These days, my re-reads are usually from my favorite authors (Connie Willis, Ray Bradbury, Anne McCaffrey), but sometimes I grab that old copy of Dragon Prince and curl up for a great re-read.

What books do you find yourself re-reading?

This post is part of the A-Z Challenge. Every day (except Sundays) in the month of May, I’ll be posting about people, places, books, games, and other things that influence me as a writer or add a certain magic to my life. Join me in April as we explore a Hodge-Podge of Influences & Wayward Treks through the Fantastical.

  1. I have re-read The Wheel of Time and The Chronicles of Narnia so many times I can’t even count, lol. Re-readability is very important to me in a book!

  2. LeetahBegallie Me too. Some books I’ll enjoy even if they have low re-readability scores, but for the most part, that’s the sign of an excellent book.
