U is for Uematsu

In today’s continuation of the A-Z Challenge, I give you:

U is for Uematsu, Nobuo

Earlier in the A-Z Challenge, I wrote about my love of Final Fantasy, and how it’s depth of characters and worldbuilding helped encourage me as a writer. Today, I’m focusing on one particular part of that world–Nobuo Uematsu.

Nobuo_UematsuNobuo Uematsu is a Japanese video game composer and certainly my favorite. He’s most known for scoring the Final Fantasy series. He’s also a serious rocker with his bands, The Black Mages and Earthbound Papas.

Uematsu can create sweeping symphonies and intricate piano pieces, all the way to hardcore metal pieces. While I love the Final Fantasy series, it would be nothing without his wonderful music. His music can make me cry with a single note at the memories it invokes.

dearfriendsMy husband and I were fortunate enough to see Nobuo Uematsu back in 2005 at the “Dear Friends” concert in Chicago, Illinois. He and a full orchestra played music from Final Fantasy. While he’s done these sorts of tours all over the world now, at the time, this was the only time he was planning to do this in the United States.

The show went so well that he decided to tour in the following year. Then again. And again. He’s toured multiple times, and each time, the venue sells out.

One of my favorite’s below:

This post is part of the A-Z Challenge. Every day (except Sundays) in the month of May, I’ll be posting about people, places, books, games, and other things that influence me as a writer or add a certain magic to my life. Join me in April as we explore a Hodge-Podge of Influences & Wayward Treks through the Fantastical.
