Monday Night Gaming: Dragons of Tarkir – Raven Oak

Monday Night Gaming: Dragons of Tarkir

This week’s Monday Night Gaming: Dragons of Tarkir‘s release. This past weekend was the Magic: the Gathering Dragons of Tarkir Pre-Release. Due to my having a book event this weekend, I didn’t have time to play in the pre-release tournament, but we went for a short time to get the pre-release box.

Couple this with Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund and my Dragon Tempest card and… 😀

Back before this set was announced, I was already planning a 5-color EDH/Commander dragon deck. This release and that before it, only further help me create my deck. Since we didn’t do the tournament, we drafted and played with the new cards a bit, then cribbed new cards for the dragon deck.

Unfortunately, we didn’t draft many dragons in our pre-release boxes. :/ Once boxes are released, we hope to change that.

Several people were asking what my dragon deck currently looks like, so I’ll list the cards below.

What I Liked: The bringing back of dragons. <3 I also love some of the dynamics in this. Couple Descent of the Dragons with Dragon Tempest and Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund, and I can do some serious damage.

Something else I can do is use my current commander to copy a dragon from my library, then use Haven of the Spirit Dragon to pull the dragon back from the graveyard to cast it for real. Dragon Whisperer can help me continue to pump out dragons, too. That’s assuming I can get copies of Descent of the Dragons, Haven of the Spirit Dragon, and Dragon Whisperer.

Then if we pulled Sarkhan Unbroken, I could literally put half my deck on the battlefield. More like Sarkhan BROKEN. The synergy in this is just sick. 😀

What I Didn’t Like: I’m not all that impressed with Megamorph. It doesn’t feel like it adds enough beyond the morph mechanic. :/

My Current EDH 5 Color Dragon Deck–As of 3/23/15

Asterisked cards are cards you should look up if you’re not familiar with them because they are just that awesome. I wish I had time to link them all, but alas, I don’t.
